In February 2020, a surprising video started to flow into on Chinese language social media. A bunch of African kids are being instructed, by a voice off-camera, to chant phrases in Chinese language. The youngsters repeat the phrases with smiles and enthusiasm — however they don’t perceive that what they’re being instructed to say is “I’m a black monster and my IQ is low.” The clip ignited outrage in China and past.
However no-one ever answered the essential questions: Why was this filmed? The place was it shot? Who made it?
These questions ship #BBCAfricaEye and #BBCEyeInvestigations reporters Runako Celina and Henry Mhango on a journey right into a Chinese language video-making trade that exploits weak kids throughout the continent.
Africa Eye brings you authentic, investigative journalism revealing secrets and techniques and rooting out injustice on the planet’s most advanced and thrilling continent. Nothing stays hidden eternally.
