“It’s too straightforward to drive on this metropolis,” says Los Angeles Metro CEO Phil Washington, referring to the town that’s usually ranked as one of the congested on the planet. Washington’s answer to declining bus ridership is to transform most of the lanes on main streets to unique bus lanes, thus rising congestion and, he hopes, forcing a few folks out of their automobiles. Cities all around the nation are proposing such “bus‐speedy transit” initiatives, which sound good on paper till you notice that almost all of them will make congestion worse, not higher. Different proposals name for lowering the quantity of parking out there to drivers, forcing them to trip transit as a substitute.
